Why you need to add cherry juice to your diabetes diet

I keep coming across ‘antioxidants’ – and how important they are in fighting diabetes, and keeping healthy in general.

I had no idea what they are so decided to get my head around it.

Turns out, it’s all pretty simple: oxidants damage your cells – and that includes your insulin receptors, arteries and your liver, which are pretty key when it comes to balancing blood sugar.

Oxidants are very similar to exhaust fumes – they are the waste product from turning food in to fuel.

Trouble is, every single day this ‘pollution’ creates trillions of oxidants. And these oxidants damage your body’s cells (any of them – they are not fussy).

But – you can slow down this damage by pigging out on foods packed with, wait for it, antioxidants…

This is where those ‘bright’ foods come in – any food that’s red, yellow or orange are high in antioxidants, like berries for example.

So how much do you have to eat to get enough antioxidants? Quite a lot as it turns out – but don’t worry – there’s one super mega food that’s got your back, if you don’t want to ‘eat the rainbow’ all day.

And it’s nice too. Believe it not, it’s Montmorency cherry juice (Montmorency? That’s a cocktail cherry to you and me).

A small portion of this juice has the same amount of oxidants as 23 portions of regular fruit and veg. That’s staggering – when was the last time you ate 23 portions of green in a day?

What’s more, because the sugar in this cherry juice is mainly xylose, it’s very low in carbs.

I didn’t have to go far to find some Montmorency cherry juice concentrate. The first health store I went to had it – and of course, you can get it online easy enough.

So now I drizzle a bit on my porridge, which is also a diabetes fighting super food.
