An easy way to eat more fibre and antioxidants

So I’ve been sprinkling chia seeds on my porridge (and my salads) for a while now, and I started to wonder why everyone bangs on about them.

Turns out there’s lots of reasons, but for me, one in particular. I’m all for eating healthily – as long as I don’t go hungry. And that’s where chia seeds can really help.

Here’s a simple demonstration (that I found by accident) to show you what I mean.

Have a look at these two pics – it’s teaspoon of chia seeds in a wine glass.

But here’s the thing, half fill the glass with water, leave for half an hour or so, and look what happens to the chia seeds.

They need a lot more room when they absorb water – and this is exactly what happens when you eat them, so they really bulk up your food, making you feel fuller.

I found this out because some people soak them in water to eat them. So I tried it. Huge mistake. Much nicer just sprinkled on food.

Anyhow, apart from making you feel fuller, how else do they help in the fight against diabetes?

They are packed with omega 3 fats, soluble fibre, protein and antioxidants – all of which tick the box when it comes to reversing diabetes.

Best of all, just two teaspoons a day can have a dramatic effect, and that’s easy to do. Just sprinkle it on whatever…

Thanks to everyone who’s mailed me on this – it’s also where I found out more on the chia seeds.

Best
